The Being of Mary Magdalene's Syntax
Magdalene's charism of inceptual thinking unconceals The House of New Bethany as a musically, mathematically, magnificent form.
The meaning of Magdalene’s syntax.
The contemplation of a contrite sinner in union with Mary Magdalene is the mode of Being from which The House of New Bethany appropriates our Being in the Holy Spirit.
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity. Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me. To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when thou art judged.”
The House of New Bethany is symbolically a musical masterpiece, the melody of which pervades the heavenly domain of Mystical France in the center of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is a kingdom filled with the music of angels praising the Holy Trinity and revering Mary, the Holy Mother of God. It “appears” through our contrite heart as the architectural syntax of Magdalene’s Basilica in la Sainte-Baume, the liturgical syntax of the veneration of the Eucharist and her relics at her tomb, the symbolic syntax of her transformation in Christ, and the natural syntax of her cave in the massif of Provence.
We cannot hear this sweet music with our vulgar, earthly, non-glorified ears. We are the lowest of the low in our sinfulness, blind to the vision of Mystical France, deaf to its musical beauty, and incongruent to its mathematical precision. However, by the grace of the almighty God, we can contemplate and “hear” and “see” it through Magdalene’s sacred charism of inceptual thinking. Through Magdalene’s silent Being, we can orient ourselves to be “tuned” to its holy melody and “aligned” with its mathematically breathtaking beauty.
The first step is the recognition of our sinfulness.
The first step is the recognition of our sinfulness. Décrouvrir son péché. Discover your sin, as the Guide du Pèlerin de Marie-Madeleine et la Sainte-Baume1 instructs us. Without recognition of our sins followed by contrition and repentance, the heavenly kingdom remains closed and the magnificent symphony unheard.
We must be crucified with Christ and allow Magdalene to pray for us at the foot of our cross.
Recognition of our sinfulness requires turning away from the spirit of the world and toward the Spirit of God in prayer, contemplation, and the sacraments. The Holy Spirit must crucify us with Christ as we ask Magdalene to pray for us at the foot of our cross. Magdalene’s sacred syntax, her silent Being, is a sweet odor to heaven and draws the grace of God to us to appropriate our Being. Through Magdalene’s prayers at the foot of our cross united to Jesus and Mary, we begin to “see” the kingdom, “hear” the melody, and allow the mathematically precise panorama of the kingdom to appropriate itself in our Being. Magdalene’s syntax forms the symphony in our souls that pleases the Father in heaven.
We must recognize our sinfulness, be deeply sorry for our sins, and repent. Turn away from the spirit of the world and ascend the massif of la Sainte-Baume with tears of contrition. Find salvation in Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with Magdalene’s syntax forming your new life in Christ.
